A wall profile near the wall-ceiling junction – height, angle and how the light spreads over the ceiling.
Wall mounting vs. ceiling mounting
A wall profile is mounted on the wall near the ceiling – usually 5-30 cm below it. The light is aimed up at the ceiling. The difference from ceiling mounting: the profile is on the wall, not the ceiling, so the mounting angle is different and the light spreads slightly differently. The lower the profile is mounted, the further the light spreads across the ceiling.
The advantage of wall mounting: it is easier to retrofit into a wall than a ceiling. Screws go straight into the wall – no need to worry about ceiling fixings. The IP44 version also suits bathrooms.

Profile lighting in two directions
Some wall profiles light both upwards and downwards. This creates a two-way curtain of light that emphasises wall height. The upward light reflects off the ceiling, the downward light creates a soft band of light on the wall. Especially suited to high rooms.

Frequently asked questions
How is indirect light mounted on a wall?
Three options: a plaster-in wall profile recessed behind the board, a surface profile screwed onto a finished wall, or a two-way profile that lights both up and down. The slimmest standalone solution is a 15 mm skirting profile.
How far does a wall profile stick out from the wall?
A plaster-in profile does not stick out at all – it is flush with the board. A surface profile sticks out 15-33 mm depending on the model. A two-way profile is 17 mm.
At what height is a wall light mounted?
For general lighting 20-30 cm below the ceiling, so the light can open up before reaching the ceiling. At the wall-ceiling junction itself a sharp line forms at the top edge. For mood lighting and in hallways, 30-40 cm above the floor works well.
Can indirect light be added to a wall afterwards?
Yes, with a surface profile. It is screwed onto the finished wall and needs no plasterboarding or painting. A plaster-in profile, on the other hand, requires opening the wall.
Does wall profile light look uneven?
It does if the profile is too close to the wall or the strip is dotted SMD. The wall surface reveals unevenness mercilessly, because the light hits it at a shallow angle. Choose a COB strip and keep the profile off the wall.
